Week 10

Week 10
Explore and reflect on some additional technologies
We will explore some additional free online tools which you can use in class. You will create a post on your PLE blog on three technologies you have explored. Answer the following questions about each of the technologies you have explored:
What is the technology called?
What does it help you do?
Where can it be found?

BrainPOP is an online site that has several learning tools for social studies, science, math, english, art, health, and technology. It has videos, activities, and quizzes that can help students learn. It requires a membership, but it is found online and requires no downloading or anything.

Dreambox is a website designed to help kids with math. It is found online. It teaches kids math skills through games and challenges. The site remembers the child's login and helps the progress farther on which enables them to learn a lot.

FunBrain is also found online. It is a site that has lots of fun games for kids that also help them learn important content. The games are sorted by grade and subject making it easy to use as a fun filler activity for kids to play on after their regular assignment is finished.

Week 9

    • What are some ways you can tell that you have successfully integrated technology into your lesson?
We used the program "kidspiration" as a significant portion of our lesson plan. It is a digital investigative technology and directly corresponds with the content standard.

    • What do you feel technology should accomplish in order to be a legitimate addition to your lesson?
It should help the students learn the objective and not distract from the important information.

    • What indicators can tell you whether or not you have chosen an appropriate technology for your lesson
Whether or not it makes it easier to teach the given material. It also makes it easier to learn in a way that is more effective than using a method without technology.

Week 8/Virtual Field Trip

What are some of the problems with learning TPACK skills?
Technology is always changing, and therefore teachers are always having to learn new skill to teach effectively. Also, it is important to make sure the content material and the method of teaching are high priorities so that technology doesn't rule the classroom.

What is the main idea of the article?
TPACK combines technology, subject matter/content, and pedagogy/ the means of teaching so that teachers can teach the material in the most effective way possible.

What are some of the ideas in the article that led you to your main idea?
The article discussed how teachers are learning TPACK, its purpose, and using appropriate technologies to teach material.

What are some reasons that this article might be important for you as a teacher?
It is important to understand the relationship between curriculum material and technology. Technology should never override what gets taught, but it shouldn't be avoided because it can be very helpful in presenting concepts.

Week 7

What is the role of technology in creating dynamic experiences for your students?
Technology has the capacity of making learning fun and much more interesting than traditional teaching methods. Technology also makes many activities possible that wouldn't exist without the types of technology we have now.

What are some ways that technology might actually detract from student learning?
If the teacher or students get too caught up in the technology tool itself, it may detract from learning the actual concepts. It is important for the teacher to focus on the content standard primarily, and use the technology as a means to accomplish that goal.

What are three examples of effective technology use that you have used or experienced?
iMovie, kidspiration, and google earth are all very effective technologies for teaching.
