Week 6-Virtual tour

Other sensory experiences that may compliment the use of a virtual tour may include
1. Smell-air freshener
2. Taste-food
3.Touch-feeling textures
4. Listen-sounds from nature
5. See-pictures

I watched 3 field trips: volcanoes, holocaust, and civil war.
I liked that the volcano field trip had pictures of the actual volcanoes that came up.
I liked that the holocaust video had a youtube movie embedded in it and actual pictures of the people.
I liked how the civil war field trip had a second map layer that showed the actual states where the events of the civil war took place.

A virtual tour is helpful for showing the students different places that they would not be able to see otherwise. It is inexpensive, easy, and has a huge range of possible destinations. It is more entertaining than learning from a textbook or just by looking at a slide show. it also has the capability of showing a map format and demonstrating where the locations actually are. A downside is that virtual tours are just visual and perhaps auditory. Children cannot see it in "real life," smell the actual smell, or touch the actual objects they observe. The children are still in the classroom as well, it is not as engaging as a true field trip because they are still in the environment of the classroom.

Week 5-Google Earth

In google earth I can view places all over the world. These places can be viewed as a street map, a skyview, or a street view. Real images can be seen from all over the globe on google earth. As a teacher I can use google earth to show my students real pictures of other places, as well as where they are located on the globe and in relation to other places. Google earth can also be used in conjunction with youtube to show videos of real locations connected to their place on the earth.
